A little story about freeskiing... a passion for life!

Sometimes people ask us why we ski...

It´s hard to explain... it's our passion... that's what we love!

It started early when our parents put us on skis in the Fichtelgebirge somewhere in Bavaria. Since we grew up far away from the Alps (close to Frankfurt) we did not have the chance to ski as often as we do nowadays. But during one ski holiday each year we developed our basic skills in skiing. Max started snowboarding for some years until he discovered freeskiing...especially those park days! Lukas, who never quit skiing, started his freeskiing career at the age of 17 when he was on holiday with Max in Val Thorens. These days we also started to make our first shots. Here is one of our first ones from Saas Fee (still with bad equipment).

Since we both wanted to ski more than those 2 or 3 trips per year, we both moved to Constance, a litte town at the border to Switzerland with a university directly at Germany´s biggest lake (not the worst choice obviously ;) )

Nowadays we usually start the season in October, when the snow starts falling on the glaciers. After that most skiing takes places in the Bregenzerwald/Arlberg, as we usually get a seasonpass there. And then, it depends on the weather:

Dump = Powday

Sun = Parkday

Last year we both got skins, so now we can hike and don´t have to fight for every line anymore, as that just gives a lot more room to find your perfect line.

A little hike offers so many opportunities...
Although we have to admit, that we usually take the lifts up as high as possible. Less walking is more power when skiing down ;)

During the last years we pushed our limits and every trip you learn to ski better! While Max takes his limites as far as possible Lukas develop his skills on the production site to capture these moments.

Lukas: Max with a 720 on the "small" jump in Val Thorens.
But that doesn't mean he is taking it easier!

Lukas dropping in some pow...

But at the end its us as a team that makes skiing on this level possible. You got to know and trust your SkiBro as sometimes you can't see the whole line from up on the hill.

In addition to our skills, the equipment developed. To this day we got a nice SLR with 32 MP for photography and a GoPro3 black edition for filming up to 4K movies...and we always take them with us!

Since we  all know that freeskiing is never without any risk, you got to minimize it... otherwise you got to stop skiing... and this is no option;) To do so, we always wear our protection gear like helmets and back protectors and when we go freeriding we carry our avalanche safty stuff with us, like an avalanche beacon, ABS bagpack and similar stuff. This gives you the chance to ski terrain like this:

Max skiing some big pillows

In 2012 Lukas did some research for his Bachelor-thesis in Vancouver. So we took the chance and made a trip through Canada... kind of a paradise for skiing! We started up in Vancouver where skiing while looking down on downtown Vancouver was quite a unique experience.

After that we travelled through the coast mountains...

...with a stop in Whistler.

After that we drove over to the Rockies with a stop in Big White, where Max took it literally...

A day Catskiing near Revelstoke made this trip unforgettable! But this is another story we might blog about some day... ;)

In the summer we´ll be in Les2Alpes for a few days and for the future we plan another roadtrip to Scandinavia, where Max lived for almost one year. We want to go up the west coast of Norway up to the places like Stranda, Lyngenalps etc. and then head over to Sweden to places like Riksgränsen, Åre...

So, that´s a quick roundup of what we do. We hope that this gives you an idea of why we love skiing and do it so often. Make sure to follow us by Email at the bottom of the page to stay updated! And don´t forget: It´s all about doing what you love!

Who are we?

Hey guys, how are you doing?

Lukas: Alright, working on this blog, university, quite busy...

Max: Yeah, pretty much the same here.

So, you´ve just started this blog. What is it going to be about?

Max: Skiing (laughs). No seriously. We both love skiing and started to take pictures some years ago. And we thought it´s nicer, if we actually get to share all the stuff we do. This winter we invested in a GoPro and filmed quite a bit. And that turned out to be surprisingly good. So why keep it for us? Also we´re thinking about improving the whole thing in the future, maybe go into a tripadvisor for skiing or something like that.

Lukas: Exactly! But for now it´s just the blog. So soon we´ll start to upload some of the stuff we have from the past winters and obviously this season. And in the future we´ll post about our trips, plans and everything. All skiing related. Also we´ve both studied outside Germany and we want to keep our friends out there updated too. That´s also why it´s all in English. And as nearly everybody understands English anyways, we think that´s the way to go.

That sounds like lot´s of work?

Lukas: Haha, yes it is. But "luckily" we´re used to it from university.

Where are you guys living? Close to the mountains I guess?

Max: Well, we both study at the University of Konstanz. Originally we come from around Frankfurt, but we moved down here as it´s closer to the mountains. And the Uni is supposed to be good too. *Smile*
Lukas: Yes, Max came down here a year ahead of me, as I still had to finish High school. But when I heard about him skiing all the time, I thought I should study there too (laughs).

So skiing is not your profession. What are you doing when you´re not in the snow?

Lukas: I´m studying Physics. Got my Bachelor degree last year, and now I´m working on my Master´s degree.

Max: And I´m studying Law. I also hope to be done by next year and will be a Master of Law then. Hopefully literally (laughs).
Lukas: So you see, quite different stuff. That´s pretty cool though, as when we´re fed up from Uni and hang around, we don´t talk about Uni much, as we don´t really get what the other one does (laughs). Unfortunately we both have to study a lot though, so we don´t get to ski as much as we´d like to.

Let´s get back to fun then. Any trips planned for the rest of the season?

Max: Yeah for sure, the first week of August we´ll go to Alpe d´Huez and will probably ski one or another day at Les 2 Alpes as well.

So one more explanation. Why do you call yourself "The SkiBros"?

Lukas: We love skiing!
Max: And obviously we are brothers!

Any final words from you guys?

Lukas: Big thanks to everybody supporting us, especially our family and friends, who learned by the time, that we´re a little crazy with this skiing thing.

Max: (laughs) I couldn´t agree more!
